After two years of piloting the ENDING THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE series and workbook in the San Diego school district, we are re-releasing the program to incorporate what was learned during this evaluation period. The response from teachers, counselors, and students has been excellent and enhances this new version of the program. The new version is enriched by their input.

Ending the Cycle of Violence is a groundbreaking series that provides a bold new approach to Violence Prevention, and introduces youth to the essential life skills of:
Understanding Consequences
Developing Empathy
Practicing Forgiveness
Making Non-Violent Choices

The series is based on the nationally recognized community-based prevention programs developed by TKF, an educational foundation started in memory of Tariq Khamisa, a 20-year-old college student who was shot and killed by 14-year-old Tony Hicks in San Diego in 1995.

The US Office Of Juvenile Justice And Delinquency Prevention Model Programs Guide reports violence prevention curricula is a powerful way to promote cognitive and social development for at-risk youth.

ENDING THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE curriculum has been implemented by San Diego County Juvenile Detention Facilities and area schools for specific use with at-risk youth.

ENDING THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE has also been selected as a recommended middle school health curriculum by the Dallas Independent School District.

Using examples from Tariq and Tony’s story as well as the stories of other youth and young role models, ENDING THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE vividly communicates the contrasting realities of violence and non-violence, revenge and forgiveness. The videos also contain engaging animated sequences depicting some of the latest research on brain chemistry and how choices can affect brain development with commentary by juvenile forensic psychologist, Dr. Jeffrey Rowe.
